Stanko SebastianaSTANKO, Sebastiana Nella (nee Petralia)  - (July 19th, 1928 - December 25th, 2020)

Passed away peacefully on December 25, 2020 at the Chartwell Wynfield Long Term Care home in her 93rd year.

Beloved wife for 43 years of the late Walter Stanko (1996).

Loving and devoted mother of Eva Grotenhuis (Andre), Stella Kennedy (Edward) and Roman Stanko.

Cherished and adored Nonna of Adrian, Grace, Teresa, Simone, Daniel and Davis and Bis Nonna of Casey (Grace).

Dear sister of Concetto George Petralia (Heather) of Thunder Bay and Salvatore Petralia (late Carmela) of Torino, Italy. Predeceased by brothers Sebastiano, Alfio and sisters Catarina, Maria and Graziella, of Sicily.

Dearest friend of Maria Zwarycz with whom she shared many of life’s moments over a cup of espresso. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, family and friends in Canada and Italy.

Nella came from Aci Sant’Antonio, Sicily in 1954 to start a new life with Walter.
Together they lovingly raised their three children. She was so very proud of her grandchildren and loved them dearly.

Nella loved and lived her life to the fullest. She was always there with a smile for her children, grandchildren, family, friends and neighbours.

She kept in touch with her family in Sicily. Her travels took her to Italy, Sicily, The Netherlands, France, Monte Carlo, Switzerland, Hungary, Egypt, the United States and across Canada leaving her with many fond memories. Nella loved to sew and after retiring she took up quilting and embroidery in her spare time.

We will always remember her delicious lasagna, tasty patychky, comforting chicken noodle soup and the beautiful quilts and many quilted and embroidered keepsakes that she so lovingly made for her family.

Nella was a longtime employee at the Chrysler Ajax Trim Plant and retired in 1993. Prior to that she worked at Cole of California in Oshawa.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ripple Dhillon and the entire team at Chartwell Wynfield and especially the amazing angels of Lakeview Park for the compassionate and loving care our mother received throughout her time there. We are so very grateful for all you have done for Mom.

A Private Funeral Service will held at ST. GEORGE THE GREAT MARTYR UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.

Interment will take place at St. Wolodymyr & St. Olha Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
