Brimbecom RobertBRIMBECOM, Robert 'Bob'  - (August 3, 1935 – March 8, 2021)

It is with sadness that we announce Bob’s passing at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa on March 8, 2021 due to complications of Lewy Body dementia.

Born in Toronto on Aug. 3, 1935, Bob is predeceased by his parents, Gertrude and William Brimbecom, and his sisters, Marjory Cliche and Lillian McNeice.

He is survived by his sister, Daisy Brimbecom; Gail, his wife of 59 years; his children, Lori Brimbecom (Doug Henson) and Barry Brimbecom (Barbara Shecter); and his six grandchildren, Natalie Henson (Travis Kelly) Rebecca Henson (Christy Li) Alexandra Henson, Bridget Henson, Allan Brimbecom and Diana Brimbecom.

Bob graduated from the University of Toronto in 1958 with a degree in electrical engineering.

His long career included co-founding electronic equipment developer Commutron Ltd., serving as vice-president and general manager of Lofthouse Brass Mfg., and supervising a research and development team at Plessey Canada.

He concluded his working career as a technical writer at Parker Design, where he was delighted in meeting inventors and helping them explain their work.

For almost 60 years, Bob was a dedicated member of Westminster United Church in Whitby, where he twice served as chair of the board and sang in the choir.

As an extension of his work with the church, in 1978 Bob co-founded Manning Mews, a nonprofit housing project for seniors, and went on to serve as its president for 40 years.

Bob was a devoted family man and a caring brother. He was an avid gardener and hunter who loved being outdoors, and was the first to dig in when there was a job to be done.

His agile mind was always alert to opportunities, and he found pleasure in applying his analytical skills to repairing, designing, building and renovating. Whether building a barn or soldering a circuit board, he took pride in doing every task to the best of his abilities, and was as comfortable entering data on a spreadsheet as he was swinging a hammer.

In the final chapter of his life, Bob received kind and compassionate care from Dr. Arnold Lurie and the staff of Pineridge Place at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa. His family is extremely grateful to them, and for the support of the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region.

A virtual celebration of Bob's life will be held via Zoom on Saturday, March 13th at 1 p.m.

Details will be available on the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL website as soon as they are available.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Westminster United Church or the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region in Bob's honour.
