Rosenau GertROSENAU, Gert  - December 13th, 1955 - March 10th, 2021

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Gert Rosenau on March 10 at the age of 65 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Elke (Sommerfeld), daughters: Rebekah (Michael), MarjaLiese (Dan), and Stephanie (Jonathan) and grandchildren: Esther Grace, Lyla, Caden, Asher, Nolan, Aubrey and Piper.

He will be greatly missed by his father, Ewald, and mother-in-law, Hilda, brother, Rolfe (Sherry) and sister, Karin (Shawn).

He was predeceased by his loving mother, Alice, and father-in-law, Ernst.

He will be forever in the thoughts of many other relatives and dear friends.

Gert was a loving and supportive husband, a thoughtful and protective Dad and a caring and encouraging Opa. Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Gert was the first of three children to Ewald and Alice (Dreher) Rosenau.

Gert had an enjoyable childhood taking family trips to Florida, attending German school on Saturday mornings, and painting and fixing up cars.  He was also an enthusiastic member of his church youth group.  Gert studied biology at the University of Waterloo.

He received his Bachelor of Education from Brock University.  In 1981, Gert and Elke moved to Palau as missionary teachers at Bethania and Emmaus High Schools.

They returned to Canada in 1988 and Gert took a teaching position at Stouffville Christian School where he later established their first computer lab.

For decades he served on the board of Liebenzell Mission. In 1994, he was hired by Durham District School Board where he started as a teacher librarian, went on to be a board facilitator and finally ended his career as a highly respected, tech savvy, principal. He taught and wrote teaching courses for York University.

He is remembered as someone with a great sense of humour, who was always willing and able to solve problems especially with ever changing technology.

In his spare time, if he wasn’t tinkering around on the computer or researching recipes, you could find Gert relaxing at the trailer and building unnecessarily large fires.

In his retirement, he found great joy in developing his woodworking skills and gifting everyone he knew with bowls and pens.
