Heckbert DeniseHECKBERT, Denise B.  – (August 7, 1946March 9, 2021)

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce her peaceful passing at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto on Wednesday, March 9, 2021 at the age of 74.

Born in Oshawa, Denise was predeceased by parents Joyce and David Dobbie.

Denise was the beloved wife of Joseph (Ed) Edward Heckbert for 54 years.

A devoted, proud and loving mother of David, Michael (Rebecca), Margaret (Chrystal), Eddie (Alison), Jason, and guardian to Lisa Gray-Curle (Marc).

Fondly remembered by her grandchildren Jordan, Joshua, Abigail, Jack and Benjamin and great grandchildren Isaiah and Eli.

Survived by dear siblings Annie Major (Fred), Dennis Dobbie (Carolee), Margaret Dignard (Vince), Cathy Smith (David), Daveena Fedyk (Clarence), Eleanor Wallace (George), Will Dobbie and David Dobbie (Kathy). Denise will be greatly missed by very many nieces and nephews.

While raising her children, Denise was an active member of the NASC as a convenor and manager of various sports teams, with a focus on park league hockey and the little NHL.

Denise continued her education, graduated student of the year and became an award-winning social worker with families in need. She advocated for children’s mental health and spearheaded yearly fundraisers to support the working poor.

Denise was a generous, loving, intelligent, kind soul, who always had an open door and an extra spot at the table for anyone in need.

Once retired, Denise enjoyed trips to the local casino to take on the one arm bandits.

She was the glue that kept our very large family together. Her parting will leave a giant chasm in many lives. May she rest in peace.
