Filipetto JosephFILIPETTO, Joseph - (February 23, 1933 – May 5, 2021)

After a battle with Parkinson's and dementia, Joseph Filipetto, 88, of Oshawa, Ontario, died on Wednesday, May 5th, 2021.

He passed away comfortably in his favourite place, his home, with his "amour" Lucy close to his side. Nothing would have made him happier.

Joe, with his twin sister Pina, was born in Salvatronda, Veneto, Italy. He was the youngest and last surviving of seven siblings (Anselmo, Maria, Rino, Angelo and Amelia).

At 18, he sailed for Canada and settled in Hamilton, Ontario with other members of his family and hometown “compari”.

When an opportunity of full time employment opened at General Motors Canada, he moved to Oshawa where he met his future wife Luciana Komel. They married in 1958 and had three children (Linda, John and Annette).

Over the next 30+ years, he worked shifts at GMC, and for several years a weekly shift as a tenor in the St. Mary's of People Church choir.

He saw his children through school and marriage (Graham Hoy, Mary Anne Palangio and Karsten Doose), then retired to put all his love into his grandchildren (Alanna Hoy, Cameron Hoy, Gillian Hoy, Kristian Doose, Olivia Doose and Grace Filipetto).

He cherished his time with his grandchildren sharing his passions for and "self-proclaimed skills" in opera singing, soccer, Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, wine making, DIY home improvements and putting wheels on everything.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private funeral service will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME 847 King Street West, Oshawa.

Please join us in celebrating Joe’s life via the livestream link https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/29334 on Wednesday May 12th at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
