BIRD, Roy Andrew - Passed away peacefully on June 20, 2021, at the age of 87, following a brief illness.
He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Ann, and survived by his loving daughters Amanda (Jeffrey) and Kate (Sara), and his 4 adoring grandchildren Ethan, Emma, Amy and Faith.
Roy emerged from the humblest of beginnings in High Wycombe, England.
After two years of service in the RAF he became a private pilot and glider pilot and then a flight test engineer, spending 17 years helping to develop various commercial aircraft, including 6 years working as a member of the Concorde airliner flight test program.
After moving to Canada in 1977 with his wife and young daughters, he transitioned to a position in aircraft sales and enjoyed traveling the world in this pursuit. He always returned home eager to share the stories of his travels and adventures.
He had many passions, including a life-long love of the outdoors, which resulted in his becoming an enthusiastic sailor, camper, kayaker, hiker, runner and cyclist.
He remained an avid cyclist for his entire life and was always eager to share his love of cycling and his other interests with his friends and family on his YouTube channel, where he was affectionately referred to as the “David Attenborough of bicycles”.
He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather whose trademark wit and delightful sense of humour will be very sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Bikes without Borders (bikeswithoutborders.org) would be greatly appreciated.
