Cawker GrantCAWKER, Grant Armstrong - (February 3, 1940 – August 28, 2021)

On August 28, 2021 in his 82nd year, after a lengthy and courageously fought battle of cancer, Grant passed away at home, surrounded by family.

Deeply loved husband to Merna (nee Skerratt) of 61 years, and devoted dad to Christopher, Curt (Christine) and Catherine (Steven).

Adored and much loved papa to Joshua and Madeline (Courtice); Merisa, Shauna, Matthew (Cobourg); Alycia, Sarah, and Julia (Oshawa).

Predeceased by parents Samuel and Mabel (Armstrong) Cawker of Nestleton, Ontario. Dearly loved brother of Alan Cawker (Oshawa) and brother-in-law of Audrey & Ken (Port Perry), Maxine & Bob (Oshawa), Dorothy & Don (Newcastle), Carol (Lindsay), Geordie & Linda (Lindsay), Rick & Cathy (Port Perry), and Carroll (Peterborough).

Predeceased by brothers Arthur (Peterborough) and Ralph (Toronto), as well as sister-in-law Eleanor (Oshawa) and brother-in-law David (Port Perry) and Martin (Lindsay).

Grant will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Grant retired from G.M. Canada in the chassis department after 34 years of service

Grant enjoyed the great outdoors (hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening) as well as reading a ‘good book.’

A dedicated family man, Grant spent much of his time celebrating precious moments with his wife, children and grandchildren, as family was his pivotal focus. He could often be found tending his garden, enjoying the great outdoors through the sport of hunting, fishing or golfing with family and friends.

Grant loved his grandchildren dearly and could be found taking in their creative talents (sketches, music, dance and sport feats) with coffee in hand. He enjoyed a “fascinating read," exploring his world atlas, honing his vocabulary through dictionary searches, watching his beloved sports on television and listening to a wide genre of music, especially classic rock.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Renascent Foundation (Whitby), the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and health care members of Lakeridge Health Oshawa, Durham Regional Cancer Centre (Oshawa), Sunnybrook Hospital, Paramed and St. Elizabeth.

They would especially like to thank Grant’s palliative care nurse Tracey for her compassionate care and concern during his time at home.

Visitation for Mr. Cawker will be held at THE OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME (847 King St. West, Oshawa, ON.) on Wednesday September 1st from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. To honour Grant's passion for sports, we invite all those attending to wear their favourite jersey.
