Dobranowski WeronikaDOBRANOWSKI, Weronika (née Horbacewicz) - (September 5th, 1925 - October 30th, 2021)

Although our hearts are filled with gratitude for the gift of her life, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Weronika Dobranowski, née Horbacewicz.

She died peacefully at Copernicus Lodge on October 30, 2021 in her 97th year surrounded by loved ones.

Weronika was a loving mother to Aleksandra, Anthony (Janice), Julian Jr. (Jolanta), Richard (Sandra) and Catharine (Greg Barnes).

She was a beloved grandmother to her thirteen grandchildren - Michelle (Sean), Alexis (Jamie), Sarah (Joel), Alicia (Paul), Magdalena (Marek), Alexander (Jennifer), Kristin (Brett), Michael (Rachel), Laura, Mark, Andrew, Alex and Caroline and her nine great-grandchildren - Declan, Niamh, James, Tomas, Ania, Sophie, Mireille, Owen and Max.

Weronika is survived by her sister Józefa, her brother Czesław (Zofia) and many nieces and nephews in Canada, along with relatives in Poland and the United States.

Born in Tarasowo, Poland, Weronika lived through deportation to slave labour in Germany, four years in a Displaced Persons’ Camp and emigration to the Brazilian wilderness before settling in Oshawa in 1957 with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband of forty years, Julian Dobranowski; parents Józef and Konstancja Horbacewicz; her sisters Bronisława (Alfons Suchto) and Jadwiga (Władysław Moskalewicz); her brother Jan Horbacewicz (Helena); and brothers in law Franciszek Michno and Bronisław Dobranowski (Barbara).

From among her many qualities, family, neighbours and friends often commented on Weronika’s gentle temperament, her hospitality, her wisdom and her subtle sense of humour.

However, Weronika’s most cherished legacy is her children and their families to whom she lovingly dedicated herself.

The Family is grateful to the staff at Copernicus Lodge who cared for Weronika with kindness, and respect for the last three years of her life, and to Dr. Chopra, her family doctor prior to that.

Family and Friends may call at the  ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa (905-433-4711) on Wednesday November 3rd from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, and from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, with Eulogies at 7:30, followed by prayers with Rev. Klemens Dabrowski.
