Hoogerdyk EverienaHOOGERDYK, Everiena “Ena” Pieternella (née Bongers)   -   March 26th, 1918 - December 11th, 2021

Ena, 103, passed away on December 11th, 2021, after her long-term residency at Port Perry Place.

Ena is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Laurens Pieter "Piet" Hoogerdyk.

Born March 26th, 1918, in Rotterdam, Ena was the third child of Dingeman Adrianus Bongers and Bastiaantje Geluk.

In 1946, she met Piet while crossing the Lingebrug in Geldermalsen, and a year later, they were married, bringing together Ena's son and Piet's three daughters to form a new family.

A fourth daughter soon brought the family to seven.

Six years later, they immigrated to Canada with their five children, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax on April 1st, 1953. They settled in Whitby, Ontario, and built a new life for themselves and their children. In 1968, they opened their hearts and their home to adopted son Norman.

Ena was happiest when surrounded by friends and family, and she will be remembered for her love of storytelling and playful nicknames. She was fond of reading and going for walks, and she was always pleased to receive visitors.

Ena is predeceased by her parents and seven siblings: Aagje (Johan Hessing), Pieter (Elia Hernandez), Lenie (Herman Otten), Jopie (Teunis Hoogendorp), Sabine (Aldert Vreeken), Liesbeth, and Nellie (Ron Boswell).

She is also predeceased by stepdaughter Mary (Stoney Cooper - predeceased), granddaughter Lisa Cooper, and grandson Ricky Langille.

Ena will be missed by her surviving children Joyce (Tom Hill), Gerri (Dave Langille - predeceased), Martin (Mafalda Macaulay), Nel (Blue Cameron - predeceased), and Norman (Tammy Abbott), as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She will also be dearly missed by close family friends Klaas and Irena Zwiers.

As per Ena’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Condolences may be expressed online at  wctownfuneralchapel.com .

The clock of life is wound but once
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop,
On what day—or what hour.

Now is the only time you have,
So live it with a will.
Don't wait until tomorrow—
The hands may then be still.
