Laurie CeliaLAURIE, Celia “Karen”   -   Celia “Karen” Laurie born January 1, 1940 peacefully passed away with her son by her side at the age of 81 on Wednesday December 8, 2021.

Karen resided in Whitby, Ontario, she was a loving single parent to Steven Laurie, mother in-law to Alison, and grandmother to Eliot and Evelyn.

She was daughter to predeceased father Edward Schwalm, mother Margaret Schwalm and sister to predeceased Margaret and Peter.

Karen was a strong, independent, and creative individual who divided her time between making things, collecting oddities/antiques, gardening and volunteering.

Karen volunteered at St. Mark’s United Church’s quilting group and wove milk bag sleeping mats for at need communities.

Karen served her community and later the community provided care and support that would make possible the fulfillment of her dream: to live a long life in the comfort of her family home.
