Harris SandraHARRIS, Sandra Theodora  -  Surrounded by the love and prayers of her husband and children, Sandra (Sandy) Theodora Harris passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, after many years of ill health.

Predeceased by her parents Eva and Theodore Lakin, oldest child and sister to Janet and Linda Lakin.

Loving wife of Robert Harris for 35 years, she is survived by her three children, Cheryl Hunting (Ken), Kim Keenan (Bob) and Ken Cornelius (Liisa).

Grandmother of Julie, Erich, Theodore, Matthew, Gordon, Jeremy, Christopher, Ashleigh, Tylor, Mark, Kasandra, Jessica and Emily-Sue.  Great-grandmother of 10.

Born April 30, 1942, in Oshawa, Ontario, Sandy loved music and was a devoted member of the Salvation Army Oshawa Temple Corps where she served as a Songster and Songster Treasurer for many years until her health started to fail.

For a number of years, she sat on the Council for the Folk Arts Festival putting her hand into any area that required her assistance.

She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 19 years, and this was complicated in her later years with scleroderma, causing pulmonary fibrosis.

As her health deteriorated, she was forced to sit on the sidelines and watched as others took her place, although she never lost her love of Jesus and all his teachings.

Sandy worked as a paste up artist for General Printers on finishing school and before her marriage.  She had returned to work in Alger Press after the birth of her three children, and on closure of the business, went back to school to learn computer science.

She worked for many years after that at the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) as the Accounts Receivable clerk, spending hours, for nine years, travelling back and forth every day from Courtice to Markham.

Yet she still had time to work toward her position as an Associate Chaplain and represented the Salvation Army in the Chaplaincy program at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for a number of years.

On retirement, Sandy spent many hours visiting and caring for her mother, Eva, in a nursing home and was a blessing to all those with whom she came in contact.

As her health deteriorated, Sandy was forced to take a step back and watch others do the things she could no longer do but bringing God’s teachings to those she met in her example to others.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces and their families, and all those with whom she came into contact for her sunny smile and soft words of welcome as she lived God’s promise of a place in his Kingdom by her example here on earth.

Thanks to the many physicians and staff of Toronto General, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto Western General Hospital and the Oshawa Clinic who, over the years, have worked to help her keep functioning through her health problems.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend for visitation at the McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  The family has requested all attendees to be double vaccinated.
