Holmes DavidHOLMES, David Gordon  -  October 20th, 1940 - March 1st, 2022

On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, David Gordon Holmes, 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by Marcie Holmes, his devoted wife of 38 years as well as sons: Neil, Jeff and Steve and daughters: Joanne, Paula and Marlene.

He leaves behind his siblings: Ken , John, Marg and Pat; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and dear friends Dolan and Bob.

Born in 1940 to Gordon and Doris Holmes, David grew up on an agricultural farm in Dundalk, Ontario.

Here, his love of nature began; a passion he would carry with him throughout his life even after leaving the farm.

Strongly ambitious, at the tender age of 17, David moved to Toronto to find his independence.

He built a successful career in the Bindery Industry, running the operations of several different companies before retiring in a Management role.

In retirement, David returned back to nature, moving to Northern, Ontario where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and Marcie's baking. His sons will remember fishing adventures to places like Manitoulin Island and Hay Bay.

His daughters loved water skiing behind his boat and taste-testing his blueberry wine – homemade from fruit they freshly picked from his property in Gowganda, Ontario. His wife Marcie, will always cherish memories from their road trips "down home" to Nova Scotia and the Carolinas to visit Neil.

David loved his family as it grew…and grew…and grew. In his elderly years, he treasured time at home with Marcie (his wife and best friend) and visits from his grandchildren: Jacob; Crystal, Jade, Chynna & Jewell; Robert, Kelly, TJ and Cody; Brittney, Kyle & Brittany R. and all of their kids – his 19 great-grandchildren: Nixon & Isla; Kenzie, Kezmai and Cohen; Hudson; Aysha & Roman; Benson & Haisley; Caleb, Avery, Aidan & Leah; Jalyn; Broden, Carson & Shelby and Ellie.

The family extends great thanks to the nurses and personal support workers for the excellent home care provided to David in his final days.

Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday March 7, 2022 at  ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King St. E, Oshawa, Ontario.

A Catholic Mass will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 1100 Mary St N, Oshawa, Ontario.

David Holmes will be laid to rest at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
