CANONICO, Mariano “Mario” - January 27, 1935 - October 7, 2022
Mariano passed away peacefully on Friday October 7, 2022, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, with his daughters, Franca and Sandra by his side, in his 88th year.
Beloved husband of 64 years to the late Ottorina.
Loving father of Franca and Sandra (Kevin).
Predeceased by his daughter Assunta (late Gaetano), and son Angelo (Marisa).
Cherished nonno of Diana (Philip), Daniel, Lisa (Greg), Andrew (Brittany), Zachary and Melissa. Great-nonno of Ella, Elliott, Karen, Livy, Eric and soon-to-be Chiara.
Mariano will be deeply missed by his siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mariano was born in Lago Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. In 1956, he and Ottorina immigrated to Canada for a better life. They settled in Oshawa, where they went on to raise their family and live the rest of their days.
Mariano was a self-taught cement worker.
He worked for the Region of Durham, and retired after 20 years of hard work and dedication.
Some of his passions and joys included family gatherings, gardening, and making sausages and wine.
The family thanks Dr. Barrettara, and PSW’s: Iryna, Val, Gina, and Maria for all their help and support.
Visitation will be held at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME Oshawa, on Wednesday October 12, 2022 from 2 P.M. until 4 P.M. (with rosary service at 3 P.M.) & 6 P.M. until 8 P.M.
Funeral Mass will be held at the ST. MARY OF THE PEOPLE Roman Catholic Church Oshawa on Thursday October 13, 2022 at 10 A.M. Interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery Whitby.
