Shields GordonSHIELDS, Gordon Bernard   -  August 21, 1931 - December 24, 2022

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce that Gordon passed away Christmas Eve at Wynfield LTC Oshawa. Gordon was born in Oshawa, Ontario to his parents Thomas and Irene (Baker) Shields.

He leaves behind his sister Joan Bouckley (Doug).

Predeceased by his younger brother Donald Shields (Marielle). Married to Elsie (Saychook/Hardie) for 38 years.

A loving and best friend.

They shared many an adventure together through travel and countless days at the cottage. It was there that they were truly happy, and the best of memories were made. He will be greatly missed by his stepson David Hardie (Diana) at the “Ranch” and stepdaughter Susan Hardie in Ottawa.

Cherished uncle to Alison, Mark, Daphne, Bonnie, Stephen (deceased), Brent and Barry. Predeceased by his first wife Elaine (Reid) Shields and his daughter Susan Shields.

There’s so much to tell you about this awesome man. His virtues, his kindness, his generosity, and friendship allowed him to stand out above many.

Gordon was dedicated to family as well as the community. He retired from Bell Canada after 35 years and was a member of the Canadian Pioneer Life program. He was a devout man of faith, a member of the Knights of Columbus. Well known as a volunteer at St. Vincent’s Kitchen in Oshawa.

“Thank you” was his most noted choice of words. A true gentleman right until the end. We’ll miss that trademark smile of his, but it will always stay in our hearts.

We love you forever. Until we meet again.

Much appreciation and thanks goes to all who helped him on this journey. Your names are so many there at his Chartwell Colonial Retirement Residence in Whitby and his recent stay at Chartwell Wynfield LTC in Oshawa.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at  ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME (124 King St. E., Oshawa). Prayers at 3 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the People Catholic Church.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent’s Kitchen.

Online condolences may be shared at armstrongfh.ca .
