BIRRELL, Gwendolen Elizabeth (neé Purdy) - In her 93rd year at Case Manor, Bobcaygeon, Ontario on January 7, 2018.
Daughter of Albert Charles Purdy and Agnes McDowell, born in Truro, Nova Scotia.
Predeceased by her husband of 59 years Richard Birrell (2006).
Survived by daughter Beverley (Bruce) Williams, Brooklin,and son, Wayne Birrell, Kitchener.
GrandchildrenAaron (Claire) Birrell, Wellesley, Sherri Beth Birrell, London, Ian (Meaghan) Williams, Janetville,& Maxwell Birrell-Jupp, Brantford.
Great grandchildren, Braelan& Connor Birrell, Charlotte, Charlie, Lilly & Hazel Birrell.
Gwen & Dick lived in Toronto and later built their first house in Cooksville (now Mississauga) in 1949. After many years in Mississauga they retired to Bobcaygeon, Ontario to live in their summer house by the lake. Winters were spent in Florida, Utah and Texas finally coming back to Ontario for their final winters in Ontario.
Gwen volunteered at the Mississauga Hospital (Trillium) in the Tuck Shop and the Emergency Department for many years. They travelled all over Europe and the British Isles. She really enjoyed golf and every when she was not able to play anymore was an avid fan. She was a private lady who born in the wrong century.
Cremation has taken place and Interment will take place at Park Lawn Cemetery, Toronto at a later date.
Visitation will be held on Saturday 1pm-4pm January 13, 2018 at BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Road North, Whitby, On L1M 1W9, 905-655-3662.
