Hayes LornaHAYES, Lorna Evelyn  - (23-January-1932 - 20-January-2018)

It is with sadness twice over that we now write of the passing of Lorna Hayes at age 85, just 43 days after the passing of her husband of 63 years, Clifford.

Lorna died peacefully at Hillsdale Estates with family at her side. Lorna was the beloved mother of Blaine, Philip and wife Cindy, Janet, and Carol and husband Chris.

She took great joy in her seven randchildren: Jesslyn and Kevan; Alan, Jolene, Lynn and Elizabeth; and Madeleine. She was great-grandmother to ten: Anastasia, Emily, Ajay and Chevy; Gordon, Angela and Shelby; Hannah and Lily; and Orias.

Daughter of the late Herbert and Hazel Miller, Lorna is remembered by her sister-in-law Ruby. She was predeceased by her brothers Tommy, Neil and Lloyd Miller and her sisters Olive, and Anne. Lorna always valued family, and will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and their extended families.

A proud “northerner”, Lorna was born in Schumacher, Ont. She took the train south at age 19, settling in Oshawa where she began a lifetime of friendships. Lorna met Clifford during her work as a photographer for The Oshawa Times.

After raising her four children, Lorna continued her caregiving at Rossland Park Daycare for many years. Lorna and Cliff enjoyed many travels with friends and family. Highlights included Caribbean travels with friends, a Newfoundland trip following their 50th anniversary, driving to the Yukon and back, and celebrating her 76th birthday in Tanzania.

At their home on Harmony Rd N, Lorna tended to her beautiful gardens, expanded her owl collection, and enjoyed her books. Friends and family enjoyed her delicious Sunday roast beef dinners.

After moving to Darcy St., Lorna added cats to the household and took great delight in the company of Zeke and Laney. Lorna put others ahead of herself, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of caring and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to drop-in to celebrate of lives of both Lorna and Clifford this coming summer, on Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME & CEMETERY, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby (North of Hwy 2) 905-443-3376.

Memories and condolences can be expressed online at mountlawn.ca.
