Valentine SylviaVALENTINE, Sylvia Maxine  - Died peacefully on March 28, 2018, in Lakeridge Health Oshawa after a short illness.

She was dearly loved by her husband George, daughters Sue (Dennis Deeley), Sandy (Dale Williams), grandson Zachary Phillippe, sisters Marlene Bahry and Betty Hicks (Ken), brothers Ron Stezik (Dawn) and Bill, nieces and nephews Dorothy, Ed, Denise, Jason, Tim, Chris, Nancy, Valerie, John, and the late Michael.

Sylvia enjoyed a lifetime of creativity, and everything she turned her hand to had the stamp of beauty and excellence.

Her devotion to birds, nature, and conservation fuelled her inspiration and greatest passion—watercolour painting.

Her favourite subjects were colourful flowers, trees, landscapes and historical buildings; and for several years she also taught and inspired many students.

Before this, she enjoyed seasons of gardening, flowers, shrubs, vegetables and fruits; and was an accomplished cook and baker; and her much-loved and fortunate family reaped the delicious benefits. She loved spending time with her family sharing meals, and spent many summers by the water at the cottage.

She grew up in Oshawa, graduated from nursing school at OGH and worked as a nurse before having a clothing store where she indulged her love of fashion, design and sewing. Her generous sharing of the fruits of all of her creative pursuits will be missed by all who knew her. Many thanks to nurses Agnes, Brenda, and all her caregivers at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and Oshawa Supportive Care. We are deeply grateful for your compassionate attention.

Friends may call at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Hwy #2, Courtice (905-432-8484) on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at 12 p.m. for a Memorial Service in the Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life and luncheon in the Reception Room.

In memory of Sylvia you can plant a tree, some flowers, or especially some wildflowers like milkweed for our monarch butterflies, and be kind to our Earth; or donate to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville or Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre.
