Murray MaryMURRAY, Mary Elsie   -

1924 - 2023

On June 3, 2023, Mary passed away peacefully. She was 99 years old.

Beloved wife of the late Raymond; loving mother of Robert (late Susan), David (Mary), Leigh Scott (Andrew), Lesley Hutcheson (Scott), and the late Douglas; adored grandma to Jenny, Sarah, Paula, Evan, Ben, Nicholas, Cole and Sydney; and cherished great-grandmom to Max, Jake, Nolan and Mason.

Mary was born to Edwin and Mary Jane Hitchens (Hopley).

She was predeceased by her brother, Ted; sister-in-law, Olive; and niece, Lorelei. Born in Mandalay (formerly Burma) into an army family, Mary travelled extensively as a child, attending 26 different schools throughout her childhood.

When she was eight, the family moved back to England, settling in the Farnborough area.

In her twenties, she met the love of her life, Raymond, at a local dance, while he was on leave from his station during WWII. It was love at first sight, and they quickly made plans for marriage and Mary's departure to Canada.

Mary had a full life raising four children, as well as having a 20-year career in the accounting field with Ortho Pharmaceuticals (now owned by Johnson & Johnson).

Mary was loved by all who knew her. She was smart, kind, patient, thoughtful, and had a wonderful sense of humor.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. For those who would like to celebrate Mary's life, funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 1:15 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 2473 Thorn Lodge Dr., Mississauga, Ontario. Burial will take place the same day, at 4:00 p.m. at Elgin Mills Cemetery, Richmond Hill.
