Foote BabsFOOTE, Barbara 'Babs' (Watson) Foote - Died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto on Saturday, August 4, 2018, after a brave battle with congestive heart failure. She was 90.

Barbara was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on June 14, 1928, to Janet (nee Harvie) and James Watson.

In 1959 she boarded a plane with 4 young children in tow, emigrating from Scotland to join her husband Jack who had gone ahead to establish a new life in Canada.

The first year contained much heartbreak in this new country for the family including the loss of a young son, as well as the sudden loss of Babs’ mother back home. Being a child of the war years, she was familiar with adversity and handled this all with resiliency and grace. She was the rock of our family.

Babs was highly intelligent and organized and with her business school certificate in hand she went on to excel in a successful career as private secretary for many appreciative executives at Christie Foods, McGuinness Distillers, Pittsburgh Paints and the Government of Ontario. One of the few working moms at that time, she managed to balance work and family seamlessly until her retirement in 1993.

Babs loved to sing and dance and enjoyed a good joke. She was always fun to be around. One of her favourite things was enjoying a good cup of tea with her chocolate biscuits. She loved to learn and studied French, took disco dancing lessons and Tai Chi to name a few things.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 68 years, John Dunlop Foote; her children William (Wende), James (Lauren), Deborah McIlwee (Jim), Jacqueline Hodgson (Scott) and Graeme (Michelle); her 10 grandchildren Cullan, Crysti, Julie, Cameron, Gavin, Duncan, Darcy, Jesse, Alexandra and Isabella; as well as her nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.

She was predeceased by her son David.

Thank you to Dr. Morin, Dr. Batejko and staff of 4L in St. Joseph’s Hospital.

On Wednesday, August 8th, a public visitation will be held between 11am - 1pm, followed by a service at 1pm at Ridley Funeral Home, Etobicoke. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Barbara’s life.

Donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
