DALTON, Patricia Alberta - (April 1, 1933 to August 9, 2018) - It’s with profound grief that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and the lifelong companion of our father, Peter.
Pat was an inspiration to all of us along with the many relatives and friends she encountered throughout her journey. She faced life’s challenges with grace and optimism until her final day of August 9th.
She died peacefully and somewhat unexpectedly at Princess Margaret Hospital after a valiant battle with Leukemia, which she recently appeared to be winning.
Pat leaves behind Peter, her husband of 63 years; and her children Andrew, Susan and Randall, along with their spouses Julie, Craig and Eva.
She was fortunate to have seven grandchildren namely Blake, Kelly, Holly, Emily, Scott, Katie and Lauren.
Pat was predeceased by her parents Bert and Ethel Jones and her sister Marjorie.
The recent engagements of Blake and Erica, Emily and David, and Holly and Zach overjoyed her, and she was highly motivated to recover and attend their respective weddings, but will now do so in spirit.
Pat had many interests and pursuits throughout her life with her proudest accomplishments being a graduate of Bishop Strachan School (BSS) and the University of Toronto. She maintained close association with both institutions and was very active with the BSS alumni and served as her Class President for many years. As well, Pat had an ongoing association with her sorority and the University Women’s Club of Toronto.
Her offspring realized many athletic accomplishments; however, she was the first to admit this was not her strong suit. Pat’s recreational interests included mostly social activities with the foremost being bridge, which she enjoyed at the Granite Club, Muskoka Lakes Golf and Country Club and the St. Andrew’s Club in Florida. She also relished participating in her book club which she continued to be involved with up to her final days.
The greatest passion of her life was the time she spent with family and friends at Woodmere Island on Lake Rosseau. Anyone closely involved with Pat will fondly remember the time spent with her in this remarkable environment.
We would like to thank the doctors and staff at Princess Margaret Hospital who looked after her so compassionately and, in particular, her clinical trial nurse Deborah Sanfelice who went well beyond the call of duty and provided her with the gift of hope until her last days.
In lieu of a monetary donation or flowers, Pat would like to call on all her friends, family and acquaintances to donate blood, which will assist the lives of other patients with blood disorders.
She lived life to the fullest and, although we are heartbroken with her loss, we will soon be able to reflect on the wonderful life she had and the legacy she leaves with us for years to come.
To recognize Pat’s life, a private family service has been held. There will be a celebration of life at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church in early September.
