McPhail JohnMcPHAIL, John  - We, the family of John McPhail, regret to announce his passing on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born April 13, 1929, in Toronto, he was the son of Scottish immigrants, the late Joseph and Bridget "Bessie" (Jenkins) McPhail.

John touched many during his lifetime.

He was one of the kindest persons you would ever wish to meet, opening his heart and home to many. He was able to reach people in a deep and positive way. John was beloved "Uncle John" to his nephews and nieces; "the coach" to a number of young soccer and basketball players and friend to anyone troubled or in need. He had an unique zest for life.

He enjoyed listening and laughing with friends, dancing with Sandy, listening to Iain play his pipes, singing Scottish songs, reading Burns poems and having a wee dram with friends. John spent over 50 years in the construction equipment rental business.

He will be remembered by co-workers and customers for his enthusiasm, humour and commitment. John will smile when you raise a glass of his favourite drink in his memory.

John was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by his wife, Sandy (Moore), son, Iain, grandchild, Kingsley, and sister, Jean Gordon. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his sisters, Josephine Omand and Grace Binger-Coe.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Christ The King, 475 Rathburn Road, Etobicoke, Ontario, on Saturday, October 13th at 11 a.m., with Rev. Julian Aldous officiating.

Celebration of life will follow at the Islington Golf Club. Memorials may be made to the Ontario Mental Health Foundation.
