CONTE, Teresa - Died peacefully on Sunday morning, August 18, 2019 at Mackenzie Health Centre, Vaughan at the age of 83.
Teresa was predeceased by her beloved husband Romeo.
Beloved mother to Doris Conte and Dennis Conte and Nonna to Michael, Tiana, Christian and Justin. Teresa had the great gift of being a BisNonna (great grandmother) to Harleigh and Mara Ringer.
As an Italian immigrant, Teresa made the trek by ship across the Atlantic to this country on her own in 1952 at the young age of 16. After landing in Halifax she then accomplished what many would love to do and that is cross Canada by train as her final destination was Trail, B.C. She learned English to a high level of fluency within 6 months by reading comic books and interacting with her Canadian born cousins.
After moving back to Toronto, she met and married her love, Romeo in 1958 and spent the next 49 years together. Teresa loved her grandchildren so much she would often go to their schools and even high school and request to take them out of class to spend some time with them. The 'Mansion' in Kleinberg where her adult grandchildren spent some famous days, was also one of her favourite places.
She will be missed at many Woodbridge restaurants where her favourite activity was a small dinner and a big glass of white wine, followed by anyone of us taking her for a very long drive so she could appreciate nature since she was not able to drive anymore.
Teresa lived life on her own terms. She rarely if ever missed mass even through her significant health challenges. You always knew when Teresa was in the room. She had a way of drawing in your attention.
Her charity was always evidenced. Her favourite way to touch people was to send in mass offerings for dearly departed loved ones of people she did not even know. This gesture did not go unnoticed and many were touched by her thoughtfulness.
Teresa's family wish to thank the staff at Mackenzie Health for the care and kindness they provided.
Friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home (4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge) on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 10am until time of service at 12:00 pm. Entombment will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery following a reception in the funeral home.
