LaFay MickLaFAY, Harry 'Mick' - (1941 - 2020) - Harry passed away peacefully at South Lake Regional Health Centre on March 27th, 2020.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Miriam, and his children of whom he was so proud; Steve (Michelle) and Wayne (Theresa).

He was an extremely proud and loving Grandpa to his three grandchildren, Cassie, Mitch and Alex.

He was the son of the late Harry and Alberta LaFay, brother to his late sister Sandra and his late brothers Jack and Hugh. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Ray (Lorraine) Robbins and his sister-in-law, Joyce Bishop.

From an early age he was given the nickname, Mick, which stayed with him his whole life. Mick valued hard work and enjoyed being productive starting with selling programs at the Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club’s games in the fifties. His natural enthusiasm and "gift of the gab” served him well, attracting interesting career opportunities such as working one of the games in the midway at the CNE in his teens. That passion for work stayed with him throughout his long and fruitful career, finally ending with Quebecor as a print salesman.

But as much as he loved his work, his family was his first priority. He cherished his time with his wife, known to “cut the rug” dancing with Miriam whenever they could. Likewise with his sons, volunteering countless hours with incredible passion coaching minor hockey and softball in Aurora.

In retirement, he loved sharing time fishing with his grandchildren at the cottage and a drink or even a dance in the boathouse with family… the more the merrier! Known as the life of the party, he loved a good conversation often playing the other side of an issue just to keep it going. And of course, he always loved a good laugh, even if it was at his own expense.

Never one to miss his grandkids' sporting events, he and Miriam could be found driving all over North America to catch figure skating, volleyball, or his favourite sport, hockey. His enthusiasm and natural friendliness made it easy to connect with people. He talked hockey with everyone and made friends in arenas everywhere.

Yes, Mick made friends easily but he was loyal as well. He will be missed by childhood friends of almost 70 years, many friends from his working days that he still met for lunch to celebrate birthdays, and most of all by his family.

He lived his message and taught us well: everything happens for a reason, what goes around comes around, the glass is half full, two wrongs don’t make a right, it’s always darkest before the dawn, I’d rather be a rose than a thorn, celebrate others' success, and make it happen. But most of all, accept people as they are… don’t idolize others but don’t look down upon them either.

Because of these extraordinary times with the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date when it is appropriate. Arrangements with Thompson funeral home, Aurora.
