Avelar ManuelAVELAR, Manuel - Age 67, passed away unexpectedly on April 7, 2020 at 6.25pm after a long battle with sarcoidosis, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Goretti.

He will be dearly missed and always loved by his children: Sonia, Ruben, Aaron, and his grandson, Jayden; his brothers Jose (Laurinda), Mario (Ilda), nephews and nieces Danny (Vanessa), Anthony (Josie), Christina (Sergio); along with his nephew and niece residing in Portugal: Paulo (Sandra) & Carla.

Manuel was born on Dec 17, 1952 on the island of Sao Miguel to his parents Antonio Avelar, and Conceicao Raposo. In the early 1970’s Manuel served his country in the Portuguese colonial war in Mozambique. He was a genuine and kind person who would put his own needs aside in order to help anyone. His work ethic and values in life were admired by everyone.

In 1988 Manuel immigrated to Canada with his family where he worked as a stonemason until the age of 65 for the company Melo Landscaping. He was proud and dedicated to his work which is displayed in different areas of the GTA.

He would regularly visit his home; which he built with his own hands in his beloved island of Sao Miguel, and encouraged his children to do the same.

Manuel had a passion for music, and loved to play his guitar as well as the clarinet, as a dedicated member of the marching band Banda Lira Portuguese de Brampton since 1988.

He was also an animal lover and took care of his cats and husky, Danzig.

Manuel was loved and cherished by all his family and all of his many friends who mostly referred to him by the nick name of “Carreiro”.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 14 at Cardinal Funeral Homes, Toronto from 8-11am. Unfortunately due to current circumstances of social distancing rules and regulations a limit of 10 people inside the building is allowed. We ask that you keep your visit brief in order to give everyone a chance to say their goodbyes.

A private service followed by entombment will be held for immediate family only.
