Moranis AnneMORANIS, Anne Ruth - 1925 - 2020 - Anne passed away, age 94, on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at home under the remarkable care of Rose Oliver, her primary caregiver and revered companion for the last ten years.

A beautiful, giving, kind, dependable, nurturing woman. Funny, spirited, stubborn, a doer -- she made things and made things happen, frugal and generous, master of marble chiffon and malapropism. (In our family we don't text -- we texmex.)

Cherished daughter and daughter-in-law of the late Chava and Fischel Baker and Jacob and Lena Moranis.

Beloved wife and supportive partner of the late Morris Moranis (for almost 50 years).

Loving mother and mother-in-law of Jill (Hertzman), Rick and the late Ann (Belsky).

Devoted and proud Grandma Annie since 1978 (in Toronto and New York) of Laura and Brian, the late Jacob, Ben and Danna, Rachel and Gregory, Mitchell and Stephanie and great grandma to Ethan, Noa, and baby Max.

Dear sister of Marilyn (Jack, Irving), who mourns with us from her home in Long Island, New York, and the late Beatrice (Solly), Manny (Gloria), Dorothy (Vernon), and sister-in-law of the late Selma (Dave), Reuben (Edna), Jules (Sadie).

Adored Auntie Anne to all her nieces and nephews in the Baker and Moranis families.

She had wanted to go to medical school but there was a need to earn money. So she trained as a lab technician and her first job was assistant to Dr. Markson, a well-known Kensington community Family Physician.

Anne and Morris were married in October of 1947. After Jill was born, Ma became a homemaker. And what a home she made for us. Our little bungalow on Almington Street was a place of warmth, love, laughter, music, Jewish celebration, extended family, friends, and food.

Anne was an active member of Adath Israel Congregation (from its 1957 rebirth and arrival at Bathurst and Wilson). She joined Hadassah- Wizo and rose to become the chair of Youth Aliyah but declined the national presidency for personal reasons.

Mother was a lifelong learner, student of Torah, a regular shul goer and worshipper (and client of the weekly hairdresser appointment), until she no longer could. She instinctively and quietly fulfilled the core Jewish commandments during her life, choosing and affirming life -- the quintessential Jewish teaching -- again and again, until she could no longer.

We gratefully thank the many doctors and their staff, caregivers, and supporters of our mother over the years. Most especially we thank Dr. Henny Rappaport, Dr. Lawrence Weisbrod, Dr. Carol Schwartz, and the exceptional Dr. Carole Cohen -- for their expertise, compassion and commitment to "a special lady".

Ma knew there was a spreading virus that was keeping people at home. She could almost grasp the magnitude of its effect. Perhaps there will be another time to share memories. For now, we say thank you to all who loved her.

If desired, memorial donations in honour of Anne, may be made to CNIB Foundation, JVS Toronto or a charity close to your heart
