Silver ShirleySILVER, Shirley - Our wonderful mother died peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, expertly taken care of by a dedicated and compassionate team of doctors and nurses.

We are so lucky to have had a Mom who lived 93 incredible years. Born in Toronto in 1927 to the late Rose and Hyman Freedman, Shirley attended Harbord Collegiate Institute and Northwestern University in Chicago.

After marrying the late Harry "Hush" Silver, the couple moved to Peterborough, Ontario to start their family and run their family retail business.

Shirley loved the arts and the theater, cooking and baking, sewing and knitting, golf, curling, and mahjong - and absolutely devoured any and all crossword puzzles. Shirley was warm and kind, supportive and encouraging, structured and disciplined, and always appropriately stylish. She was philanthropic and raised funds and resources for Canadian Hadassah-WIZO, The Peterborough Ornamental Swimming Club Association, and Beth Israel Synagogue in Peterborough.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her daughters Susan Fremar (Dr. Morris Fremar), and Hope Saul (Sheldon Saul), by her granddaughters Leanne Fremar (Joshua Deutsch), Leslie Fremar (Jordan Lupu), Rochelle Isaacson (Ben Isaacson), Carrie Lindzon (Josh Lindzon) by her great grandchildren Jonah, Leo, Jamie, Mika, Ethan, Rachel, Zarah, Noah, and she was Auntie Shirley to many adoring nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Dr. Mark Yudin for his unwavering devotion and expertise in caring for his great Aunt Shirley. We would like to acknowledge the staff at Viva Life where she enjoyed living for the past 6 years.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020.

Donations can be made in memory of Shirley Silver to Baycrest Centre in Toronto.
