MICHALOWSKI, Marsha – (October 12, 1922 – June 4, 2020) - To say Marsha was an inspiration is an understatement.

As a Holocaust Survivor, she was the embodiment of a young woman who endured unspeakable pain and suffering. Her remarkable story began in a small Polish town, escaping the ghettos at the beginning of the war to join the resistance, refusing to give up her life and freedom.

She met and married her beshert, Abraham while in the ghetto. After surviving the war, they made their way to Toronto and started a life and a family. Survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Sylvia and Yehuda Shemesh, and Sharon and Gil Freedman.

Loving Bubbie to Roey Shemesh, Mia and Hayden Bendavid and Amy and Lee Freedman. Proud Great-Bubbie of Olivia and Levi Bendavid.

Marsha was a simple and beautiful soul. She didn’t need much out of life, just some time with her family and a little bit of fat on her roast beef with a side of bread and butter.

Marsha had varied interests, ranging from dancing, singing, cooking to her love for the Leafs. Her friendly, kind-hearted, thoughtful and caring nature shined through in every aspect of Marsha’s life. Without fail, she was always there to dish out a compliment, and if you ever needed a confidence boost, you would pay Marsha a visit.

She touched every person who was lucky enough to meet her. Nobody could say a bad word about Marsha, but perhaps a truer testament to her character is the fact that she has never said a bad word about anyone else.

Marsha died peacefully at home Thursday morning, June 4, 2020. We take solace in knowing that she has passed a little bit of herself in all of us, and her legacy will live on forever.

Memorial donations can be made to the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre https://jewishtoronto.com/donate/holocaust-education-centre.

Private Family Funeral Service will be held. The service will be live-streamed. Please go to smclive.ca.
