Dickie ShawnDICKIE, Gordon Shawn - It is with sadness that we announce the death of Shawn, who passed away from Covid19 on June 28, 2020, one day after his 64th birthday.

Shawn, as he was known to friends and family, was a gentle, kind-hearted, generous man who lived a simple and uncomplicated life.

He was gregarious, charming and great company.

Everyone seemed to know him and to be drawn to his positive energy; he was very popular and will be remembered for his loyalty, quick wit, and warm smile.

Shawn was born in Calgary, Alberta but shortly afterwards moved to Bermuda where he spent most of his childhood. From an early age Shawn appreciated the finer things in life -- an appreciation rooted in the time his family spent at the various luxury properties that his father managed. His fondest memories include playing with his siblings on the pink sand beaches of Bermuda and ordering shrimp cocktails and chocolate milk from the bar at the Bermuda Princess Hotel.

After leaving Bermuda, Shawn and his family settled in Scarborough, Ontario where he graduated from David and Mary Thomson Collegiate. It was a happy time, during which he was surrounded by friends and in full enjoyment of his prized possessions: a gold Mustang, a white Corvette, and his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Shawn loved going on trips up north to Cottage County and down south to Florida. After his daughter Alanna was born, one of his most memorable trips was captaining a house boat with his family on board. He was a wonderful captain.

Above all Shawn was a dedicated and loving father who would do anything for his daughter. He sold his beloved Corvette for the down payment on their first family home and helped not only to support her while she completed her degree at the University of Toronto but also to send her on numerous trips to Europe.

Most importantly, Shawn made sure to meet her for shrimp cocktails at the Keg Mansion on a regular basis and was always just a phone call away. She will forever treasure all the wonderful memories they shared.

A Celebration of Life for Shawn will be held at a later date in Thompson Memorial Park.
