FIELDS, Judith 'Judy' Naomi Avin - Judy passed away peacefully after a full life of 77 years on August 6th, 2020.
Loving mother to Eileen (Mark Jadd), Justine (late Stewart Silver) and Elaana (Eitan Shvartsman) and grandmother to Matthew, Brian, Leah and Bella; lifelong friend to Bena and Cousin Burt.
Though born in Sacramento, Judy grew up first in Brooklyn and then Virginia. Having an adventurous spirit, she married a naval officer and lived in Japan for several years following. Afterwards, they moved to California and then Texas where she lived for 25 years.
It was in Texas that Judy became a founding member of Beth El synagogue in the suburbs of Houston.
Her love of pets started early in life – with several dogs of all sizes and breeds and even a pet budgie. Her children grew up with a hamster, two pet rabbits and a turtle among our beloved dogs.
She told her doctor life really began when she joined her adult children living in Toronto. She dabbled in drawing classes and joined the monthly Rosh Chodesh group in her apartment building. She loved basketball (long before the Raptors were popular) and treated her children to in-person games between Houston and Toronto, a favourite family outing. One of her greatest joys was training her dog Velvet to become a therapy dog and the two of them volunteered at Baycrest visiting residents.
Although she is most known for her quick comebacks and witty sarcasm, she will be remembered as a strong woman who raised three independent women in the face of much adversity.
