Burton RossBURTON, Ross - (August 9, 1957 – September 21, 2020) -

Ross Burton, 63, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded and held by family at his home in Aurora, Ontario.

An incredible father, husband and friend, Ross is survived by his wife Shannon, daughter Julia, son Mark, eldest daughter Laura, and son-in-law Jordan.

Following his graduation from the University of Toronto, Ross was encouraged by those who best knew his aptitude for honesty and integrity to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. There, during training, he met his wife Shannon while studying for her nursing degree in Regina.

A dedicated public servant with over 37 years of active service, Ross joined the Force in 1982, serving in Pelican Narrows, Swift Current and Saskatoon detachment as well as Saskatoon Highway Patrol. In 1998, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. And in 2000, he received his Law degree from the University of Toronto. One year later he attained the rank of Sergeant at Protective and Operation Support Branch, and most recently, received his Commission at the OIC of the Toronto Integrated Market Enforcement Unit in 2007. He had been working at GTA Financial Crime at the time of his passing.

Ross enjoyed his summers at Balsam Lake, taking trips to Florida with Shannon, and playing father-son hockey with Mark. He found the most joy in the simple things: breakfast with colleagues, dinner with family, and evenings with his favourite movies and shows.

Those who had the pleasure of meeting Ross knew him for his bright smile, dry humour, and readiness to offer sincere guidance and advice. He selflessly committed his time to planning for his wife and children's future and was incredibly proud of their success.

A private family service is being held at the Thompson Funeral Home in Aurora.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society in Ross' memory.
