Butler JamesBUTLER, James Joseph - (April 17, 1920 - October 26, 2020) -

After 100 glorious years, peacefully at Balmoral Retirement Residence, Collingwood, Ontario.

Loving husband of the late Dorothy (nee Gillespie), father to James (Sandra) and Michael (Valerie).

Doting grandfather to Jennifer Olivieri (Derek), Sean (deceased), and Jason (Jessica). Proud great grandfather to Liam and Raegan Olivieri and Scarlett and Harper Butler.

Our Dad was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and at the age of two, immigrated to Canada, settling in Montreal with his parents and three siblings.

When the Second World War broke out he enlisted and became a member of one of the first Royal Canadian Blackwatch Regiments to fight on foreign soil. He served his country overseas for five years and was wounded in action.

Following the war he apprenticed, and became a master electrician and worked for RCA Victor/SPAR Areospace in Montreal for the next 45 years.

Following his retirement, he and our Mom moved to the Toronto area to be closer to us kids.  Dad was a lover of golf, hunting, curling and an avid hockey fan. He was very active in the Legion with our Mom and they enjoyed many years volunteering together at the Verdun Legion.

We would like to thank the staff at Port Credit Retirement Residence and Balmoral Retirement Residence for the care our father received.

Due to COVID restrictions, the funeral will be a limited closed service. Friends of the family are asked to send condolences on the website of Skinner Middlebrook funeral home, Mississauga.

Donations may be made in Dad’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
