Stamatyades AthinaSTAMATYADES, Athina (Karaviotis) - Age 79, a dearly loved mother, sister, aunt and grandmother went home, to be in the presence of her Lord and Saviour, in the early morning hours of Sunday November 15, 2020.

She was born on the island of Kefallonia, Greece, the youngest of 7 children, and later moved to Athens in her early twenties.

As a hard-working woman, with a strong work ethic, it wasn’t long before she made a positive impression in her community.

A mutual friend of Kosta approached her, while on a visit to Athens, and asked if she would be interested in exchanging letters with an eligible bachelor in Canada. The discreet romance began through correspondence, and Kosta succeeded in winning the heart and hand of this vibrant woman. They were wed on Oct 30th, 1966 and she came to Canada on November 14th, 1966.

The air of the home was infused by a fear and reverence for God. But this was not always the case, because she did not always have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

She came to know him, and trust in Him as her Saviour, at a pivotal moment in her life. Kosta faithfully witnessed to her through his consistent bible devotions and discussions.

She came to understand that she was a sinner, lost and helpless, and that God had sent his Son as a substitute for her.

She claimed Romans 10:9 as her verse, and rested on the truth and promise found in the words: “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Athina is survived by her two sisters, Nitsa Ketikidou and Nia Panagiotou ; sister-in-laws Mimitsa and Mika Karaviotou; her daughter and son-in-law Evelyn and Phil Margerison, and her 3 grandchildren Heidi Ward (nee Margerison) and Cameron and Carter Margerison.

Due to COVID restrictions, visitations and the memorial service must be by RSVP. We will be honoured by the presence of any who can attend, but understand that many will only be able to either send their condolences or watch the service online through Chapel Ridge.

Arrangements with Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, Markham by invitation.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Gospel Trust Canada, www.gospeltrust.ca, in memory of Athina Stamatyades.
