MONTEMURRO, Barbara Vivian (nee MARTIN) - 1938 - 2021 With profound sadness the family of Barb Montemurro announces her passing on January 11, 2021, from COVID-19.
Barb was the proud mother of Sharon English Coffey (the late Paul) and Scott Montemurro (Donna).
Barb adored her grandchildren, Stephanie (Chris), Sara (Brady) and Suzanne (Dan), and her great-grandchildren, Abby, Sophia, Julia, Lucas, Madilyn and Gabriella.
She was Margaret and Scott's favourite aunt and stand-in Mom and Grandma to many.
She will be fondly remembered by Steve English, Ed Stefanek, Danny and John McCulloch and Maryanne Palmer.
Her legacy/dedication as an advocate for athletes living with disabilities ran deep. Beginning in the 1970s, she filled many volunteer and leadership roles with the Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association (OWSA), the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association, the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation and the Georgetown Accessibility Committee.
She was a significant contributor to the growth of these organizations. She was honoured with many awards, including induction into the OWSA Hall of Fame in 2008.
At her request, there will not be a funeral.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
