Smith Barbara SummersSMITH, Barbara Ann (Summers) - (8 October, 193417 January, 2021) - Barbara Summers, daughter of George and Lucille, lived her whole life in Toronto and died peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital after a short but valiant battle.

Growing up in the west end of the city, attending St Helen’s School and Loretto College School, Barbara was also a proud member of St Anthony’s Parish on Bloor St. She became politically active as a Young Liberal under Paul Hellyer in the early 1950’s.

After marrying Jim Smith, the family moved to Scarborough. Beloved mother to Stephen and Mary Anne, she immersed herself in the Parish & school communities of St. Theresa’s Shrine of the Little Flower. For over 30 years she was charged with the lead of many musical activities (both liturgical & social/community) including children’s, youth and adult choirs, under the direction of many Parish Priests and STS school principals.

After retiring from Stats Canada at age 65, Barbara had more time for her garden and was often seen outside from morning until after dark, cultivating and planting in her yard. She enjoyed nothing more than lunch on a patio, an afternoon at the ballet, a trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake to catch a few plays & some winery tours, or an evening dinner in the church hall, surrounded by good friends.

Barbara will be greatly missed by all of us left behind.

Arrangements entrusted with Paul O'Connor funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Theresa’s Shrine. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
