JOHNSTON, Frances (nee Bowie) - (December 4, 1923 to January 18, 2021) - In the 98th year of a long and active life.

Predeceased by Sam, her loving husband of 73 years, daughter Janice, three sisters and a brother. Survived by son Barry (Hilary) grandchildren Ryan (Mélanie) and Brendan and great-grandchildren Noah and Zoé.

Frances was born in Glasgow, Scotland and emigrated to Edmonton, Alberta when very young. It was there she met Sam, an RCAF Flight Sergeant. They married in Truro, Nova Scotia, were posted to Exeter and later located to Toronto, building their own home in Alderwood where they lived until about ten years ago when they moved to the Six Points area to be nearer to family.

Frances was kept busy with children and serving on the local home and school executive. She shared a love of the outdoors with Sam and explored Canada extensively with him and visited the Canadian west often when Janice lived there. She was a constant reader for most of her life, a passion she passed on to her children. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thanks to the staff of Women’s College Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital for their gentle and devoted care in her final days.

Cremation has already occurred. Arrangements entrusted with Ridley funeral home, Etobicoke.

Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Hospital for Sick Children.
