Ransom RichardRANSOM, Richard "Rick" Charles   - Passed away peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga on Monday, January 18, 2021.

He leaves behind his son, Taylor (Kelly), his grandchildren, Grayson and Callan, as well as his brother, Bob (Jan).

He was predeceased by his wife, Sandra, of 48 years.

He will also be greatly missed by his sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Peter) and Yvonne, and by his nieces and nephews, Peter William, Alexander, Andrea, Kelly, Kary, Lauren, Ryan, Joshua, Jocelyn, Victoria, Sara and Meaghan, as well as by many cherished extended family members, friends and colleagues.

Born in Winnipeg on December 4, 1944 and raised in and around Toronto, Rick was a longtime resident and engaged member of the community in Mississauga and later Gananoque, Ontario.

A graduate of Victoria College (University of Toronto), Rick enjoyed many careers as a high school teacher, night school principal and held a long tenure at Ontario Hydro, Hydro One and later Inergi/CapGemini.

Gentlemanly, possessed of an encyclopedic memory, and quick to laugh with a wry sense of humour, Rick was a teacher, mentor and caring friend to all of those fortunate enough to have encountered him in their travels.

Rick would surely have described his own enduring love of acquiring and sharing knowledge as a lifelong affliction.

Above all, Rick's quiet dignity and character were best exemplified in his most favoured role as a loving, patient and devoted father and husband.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Extendicare Mississauga for the compassionate care they provided to Rick in the final years of his life.

A celebration of Rick's life will take place at a later date to be announced by his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made in Rick's name to the Thousand Islands Boat Museum (www.tiboatmuseum.org).
