Godsoe GerryGODSOE, Deacon Gerry - It is with great sadness that we share the news of Deacon Gerry’s peaceful passing in the early morning of March 5, 2021.

Gerry leaves his wife Joan, after nearly 60 years together.

They were lifetime partners in all things and such an example of what love truly is.

He was the most amazing Dad to Danny (Janet), Deb (Sue), David (Nadia) and Angel.

He was an adored Papa to Adam (Nadia) Erin (Cristian), Aislinn, Andrew, Otto, Zak, Heather, Garnet, Laurel, Jack, Hoss, Henk and Briar Rose and his great-grandchildren Tyler and Athos.

Very special brother to Elizabeth Poirier (Guy), Julie Brennan (Frank), Joanne Barrett (John) and Angel Feuchuk (Dennis).

Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Gone before him are his siblings Nancy, Walter, Janet and Mary-Carol.

Gerry was a guidance counselor at George Harvey Collegiate and Weston Collegiate and was loved and respected by all his students. He loved his job and the role he could play in the lives of young people.

He was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in July 1980 and served as a deacon at St. John’s Catholic Church, Kingston Road for over 30 years. He had several ministries including working with youth at Covenant House, prison ministry and Pastoral Care at Providence.

He baptized over 1000 children and married many couples and had a very special gift to make people feel that he was honoured to be part of their special day. He had a deep faith and loved serving his community and the members of his parish.

We are so grateful to the staff and community of the Walnut wing at the House of Providence Healthcare Centre - they were so dedicated to him and they truly cared about him.

The private family funeral mass was held at St. John’s Catholic Church. Once it is possible, the family will hold a memorial mass and reception to celebrate Gerry’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerry’s name to Covenant House or the Providence Healthcare Adult Day Program.
