LAI, Chak Foon - Chak Foon Lai, 87, of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill Hospital on March 5, 2021.
Chak Foon was born on October 23, 1933 in Hong Kong.
He moved to Canada in 1992.
In Hong Kong, he was the owner and headmaster of a successful private elementary school in the Western District for over 20 years.
Later while teaching part-time at a Catholic school, he opened up and operated a fast food restaurant in Shuang Wan until he moved to Canada. His only marriage was to the same lady for over 60 years and raised all five children of theirs, sending them to universities overseas.
In Canada, he settled in Toronto and worked part-time in an administrative position at a restaurant until his retirement in mid 2000s. He enjoyed Chinese foods, watching television and traveling.
Chak Foon is survived by his wife, Ying Wah Chan; his children, Kin Ip Kenneth Lai, Ka Lai Kally Yuen, Ka Min Kallen Lai, Kwong Yip Andrew Lai, and Ka Bo Judy Lai; and his grandchildren, Karina Kai-Cee Yuen, Stephen Kai-Hang Yuen, Jacqueline Wing San Lai, Celine Joelle Lai and Madeline Courtney Lai.
The memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on March 16, 2021 at Elgin Mills Cemetery, Richmond Hill, Ontario.
