Zalar HenrikZALAR, Henrik (Henry) Jacob   - It is with great sadness that Henry's family announce his sudden passing, on March 27, 2021.

Henry was born in Toronto, on May 20, 1954, to Jakob and Antonija Zalar, of Slovenia.

He was very close with his father and proudly helped his parents with their business – Slovenija Meat and Delicatessen, which they established in 1958.

Henry later took over the business with his wife, Elena, who he met by chance on a trip to Florida in 1980, and they have been inseparable ever since.

Together, they enjoyed exploring Ontario and going on nature walks, visiting art galleries, and travelling.

Henry was very proud of his two children, Jakob (Maria) and Tatjana (George) – he especially enjoyed coaching their champion soccer team, cheering on Jakob at his hockey games, and watching British murder mysteries and the evening news with Tatjana.

He loved nothing more than playing and eating ice cream with his "mini-me" grandson, Henrik, and cherished his granddaughter, Sofia.

Henry was very charming and generous, and he will be sorely missed by his family, sister and brother, family in Florida, and his many friends and customers who loved to talk to him about anything and everything.

We know Henry will be popular and happy in heaven, but we still wish we had more time with him.

Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, Toronto, Sunday, April 4th, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m., by appointment made with a family member.  A Mass will be held to celebrate Henry's life at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 739 Brown's Line, Etobicoke, at 11 a.m., Monday, April 5th.
