Macdonald KennethMACDONALD, Kenneth Christian - (1937 - 2021) - Kenneth Christian Macdonald passed away peacefully at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket, Ontario on April 11th, 2021, in his 84th year.

Ken is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Ann Macdonald (Smith), his daughter, Noël Christian Macdonald-Peck, his son-in-law, Dr. David James McMahon Peck, and his grandchildren, Graham James Peck and Matthew Christian Peck.

Born in St. John’s Newfoundland to Hugh Graham Macdonald and Muriel Elizabeth Macdonald (Christian), he spent many years on the East coast before the family finally settled in Ottawa, Ontario.

Ken studied geology at Mount Allison University, and business at Carleton University before going to work for General Motors of Canada in Oshawa. In 1965, Ken accepted a position with Xerox of Canada to open up the northern territory in Ontario and the family moved to Sudbury. This experience yielded many funny stories of snowmobile suits, shotguns, moose encounters and great friendships.

The family then relocated to London, Ontario where Ken continued his career with Xerox of Canada and raising his family. Ken ended his career with Xerox as the National Marketing Manager for Facsimile products at head office in Toronto in 1994, before starting his own company, Computer Encryption Canada.

Upon his retirement, Ken and Barbara spent time travelling with friends, working in their garden, seeing their grandchildren, attending St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and meeting up with other Xerox retirees.

Ken was an incredibly honest and honorable man who had an amazing ability to relate to people. He could talk to anyone and always listened to what they had to say. Ken was a devoted husband and father, and a very proud grandfather to Graham and Matthew.

As we say goodbye to Ken, the family wishes to thank the staff at Southlake Hospital and Sunrise of Aurora for their expert and compassionate care.

Finally, we would like to share a poem that reflected Ken’s personal perspective on life. They are good words to live by.

The Man in the Glass
by Peter Dale Wimbrow Sr.

When you get what you want in your struggle for self, and the world makes you king for a day,
JUST go to a mirror and look at yourself, and see what THAT MAN has to say.
For it isn’t your father or mother or wife, whose judgement upon you must pass.
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life, is the one staring back from the glass.
Some people may think you a straight-shooting chum, and call you a wonderful guy,
but the man in the glass says you’re only a bum, if you can’t look him straight in the eye.
He’s the fellow to please, never mind all the rest, for he’s with you clear to the end.
And you have passed your most difficult, dangerous test, if the man in the glass is your friend.
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of life, and get pats on your back as you pass,
but your final reward will be heartaches and tears, if you cheat the MAN IN THE GLASS.

Arrangements are entrusted with Roadhouse and Rose funeral home, Newmarket.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
