Ichikawa LucyCHIKAWA, Lucy Chiyo   -  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lucy Ichikawa on April 11, 2021 at the age of 93.

Loving mother of Sharon (Bill McGuire), the late Dennis (Gloria Chiu), Joel (Nancy Linley), Glen, and Brenda (Jeff Stanford).

Cherished grandmother of Maui, Brad, Emma, Margaret, Jordan, Jonathan and Chloe.

She is survived by her sisters, Jean Goto, Sally Bailey, brothers Harry and Roy Nikaido and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters Judy Nakatsu, Cherry Inouye, Faye Takahashi, Pat Fujiwara, Yuki Nikaido, Rosie Yamashiro, and brothers Frank and Tak Nikaido.

Born in Ruskin, BC in 1927, Lucy was the 6th of 13 children born to Mitsu and Fuchi Nikaido. Her parents had immigrated to Canada in 1917.

During WWII, like other Japanese Canadians living in BC, Lucy and her family were treated as "Enemy Aliens."

They lost their family farm and possessions and were detained in the Tashme, BC Internment Camp.

After the war, Lucy married Jiro Ichikawa (predeceased) in 1952 and moved to London, Ontario where they raised their 5 children.

In her sixties, Lucy moved on her own to Toronto where she started a new chapter in her life, living independently and making new friends.

Lucy will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Her warmth and friendly demeanour endeared her to everyone she met.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff at the Lakeside Long Term Care Home, who were like her second family.

In memory of Lucy, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and Diabetes Canada.
