Furtado JoaoFURTADO, João Peixoto - João Peixoto Furtado passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2021 at the age of 71 after a long, tenacious battle with cancer.

Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Joao managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family who cared for him ‘til the very end.

Joao was born on February 21, 1950 in the small, rural village of Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel. As a boy growing up by the sea his love for adventure grew into a passion for fishing that he revisited throughout his lifespan.

After serving for his country with military deployment in Mozambique, Joao embarked on a new life’s journey and immigrated to Canada in 1974. Joao and Gloria settled in Toronto where they raised their three children and together celebrated over 50 years of unity.

João leaves behind his beloved wife Gloria, his children John, Kevin, and Odilia, and his cherished grandchildren Leo, Noah, Scarlett, and Selene.

He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and remembered in all our hearts by his family and friends.

The Furtado family greatly appreciates your gestures of sympathy and condolences at this very difficult time.

Arrangements entrusted with Jerrett funeral home, St. Clair chapel. *Regrettably, due to current pandemic restrictions the visitation and funeral service will remain private for family only on May 4th at 2pm. Burial service to be held on May 5th, 2021 at Prospect Cemetery.

If desired, flowers may be delivered to Jerrett's Funeral Home or donations in memory of João may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Your memory is my keepsake, with which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart.” ~ Bonnie Dodd
