Laing ValLAING, Valrine 'Val' Patricia (Thorpe) - Born in Saint James, Jamaica on July 31, 1959, was called home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2021.

Val leaves behind a host of family and friends who miss her dearly and will forever cherish the special moments spent with her in person and in conversation.

Among her loved ones are her daughter Karren (aka Taneish) and husband David, her son Eldon (aka Chase), and her grandchildren Kailey, Matthew, Ashley, Tahlia, and Savannah.

She is also survived by siblings Sandra, Charmaine (aka Charm), Ann-Marie (aka Mitsy), Garey (aka Leo), Dwight (aka Leroy), Andrew, and Herman (aka Lynval) as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents Pertina and Oswald and brothers Wayne, Earl, and Desmond (aka Punkie).

Val spent her youth in Jamaica. She immigrated to Canada as a young adult and made a life for herself in Toronto, before eventually settling in Brampton. Although most of her years were spent in Canada, her mind was never far from Jamaica. She reminisced about her life in Jamaica and kept up to date on the latest happenings on the island. She loved the warm weather, the beach, and Jamaican food and she made regular trips back to partake of those things she loved best.

Despite her health challenges over the years, she showed incredible strength, courage, resilience, and tenacity. She touched many lives during her time with us and often gave a helping hand and a word of encouragement to those dear to her heart. We will remember her always, with love. It was a blessing to have called her mom, grandma, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend. Although we are heartbroken by her loss, we are, at the same time, comforted that we will meet again.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 20th 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 21st 2021 at the Current Situation and Pandemic Building.

Respecting the current situation and pandemic building restrictions, the funeral service for Valrine will be held privately on Friday, May 21st.
