Armitage MarieARMITAGE, Marie - Passed away, with her children by her side, on Saturday, June 5, 2021, one week after celebrating her 100th birthday.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Armitage in 1977.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Elaine (John Barrie) and by her son, David Armitage (Birdena).

Marie was a loving Nana to Mark Barrie (2019) (Sarah), Stephen Barrie (Kelly) and Matthew Barrie (Jessica), Heather Anne (Matt Popovich), and Melodie (Dan Trempe)

 

 

Marie was a proud Grandnana to Jacob, Charlie, and Sam Barrie; Isabella Barrie; Spencer and Kennedy Popovich; as well as Jenelle and Henry Trempe.

Marie, the eldest of 11, was predeceased by 9 of her brothers and sisters – Vincent (Ethel) Conlon, Helen (Tom Jasko), Jean (John Storozuk), Sister Noreen Conlon, Edward (Mary) Conlon, Patricia (Arnold Hansen), Patrick Conlon, Robert Conlon, Sheila (Don Carnegie). She will be missed by her surviving sister Geraldine (Ira Steele, predeceased) and sister-in-law Colette Conlon, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marie was also predeceased by 3 brothers-in-law and their wives: Harry (Helen) Armitage, Alan (Margaret) Armitage, and Tom (Fran) Armitage. She is survived by 2 nieces.

Marie was born in Eganville, lived in Perth briefly, and then grew up in Coniston. After finishing high school, she left home to complete a registered nursing program in Kingston.

As a recent bride, Marie moved to Gimli, Manitoba, where she nursed in the Gimli Hospital, while George served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during WW II. They then settled in King City where they raised their family. Marie worked at the medical clinic in King City for many years.

Marie lived a long and fulfilling life. She enjoyed times at her cottage, and in later years, at her home in Bradenton, Florida as well as her condo in Richmond Hill. She worked hard; loved to read, sew, garden, play cards and travel. She was devoted to her family.

The family wish to extend gratitude to Mackenzie Health Long Term Care. The staff provided Marie with excellent care over the past five years.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a private service as well as burial in the King City Cemetery.
