Connolly ValdaCONNOLLY, Valda Antoninette (nee du PREEZ)   - September 15, 1943 - June 5, 2021

We are heartbroken to announce that the centre of our universe; Valda Antoinette Connolly (nee du Preez), loving wife, adoring mother and cherished grandmother went home to God on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

She passed away in her garden, surrounded by her family.

Valda fought a brave and intense battle against stomach cancer. She will be greatly missed by her husband of fifty-two years, Michael, her daughters, Michele Toni and Jacqueline Lisa and her BFF and sidekick, her grandson Michael David.

Valda was born on September 15, 1943 in Cape Town, South Africa.

She came into the world intelligent, creative, and fearless to a country and era that did not encourage women to be so. Valda became a qualified schoolteacher by age 16.

Valda and her husband Michael immigrated to Canada in July of 1974 with their infant daughters to create a better life for their family. She left her entire family behind for the sake of her husband and children. When her husband became gravely ill in 1977, Valda became the sole financial supporter of her family.

Valda was one of the first women who worked on the night shift at the Ford Motor Company in Oakville when they allowed women on their production line in 1977.

She helped to bring all her siblings to Canada, along with numerous employees and their families.

Valda was a faithful and devoted member of St. Jude's Anglican Church in Oakville, Ontario for over thirty years. We are very grateful that Father Harry Dawson was present to offer comfort and grace during her last moments.

Valda was the heart of our family. We will be lost without her, but we remain joyous and happy that she belonged to us, even if only for a short time.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to any hospital or to any organization supporting health care workers or children with special needs. To truly celebrate Valda, be kind, generous and loving to all you encounter.
