FUNSTON, Connie Loretta   -  of Marina Del Rey, CA, on April 24, 2021 due to heart failure. 

Survived by daughter Stephanie and granddaughter Kaliana, of Marina Del Rey, son Ryan and husband Mike of Brampton and sister Cheryl Kennedy.

She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Margaret Kennedy and sister Sandi Franklin. Married in 1973, Connie died in hospital with Mike by her side after a valiant struggle.

Born at St. Michael's Hospital January 13, 1951, Connie grew up on Findlay Blvd. in Downsview, the oldest of three daughters. 

She graduated from Loretto Abbey and St. Michael's School of Nursing with honours. Always caring and compassionate, in high school she volunteered to read to the blind. 

Her stellar nursing career began in 1971 at Sunnybrook Hospital, then Sick Kids. 

After marrying and moving to Windsor, she resumed her education and earned her BA and BScN. In 1975 she was on the move again to London, where she took courses at Western and taught nursing at Fanshawe College. Mike and Connie moved to Toronto in 1977.

She worked at North York public health, North York General Hospital (unit administrator) and the Addiction Research Foundation.

She earned her Masters degree from University of Toronto and settled in Brampton in 1980 where she and Mike bought a home on Golf View Dr. Stephanie was born in 1982 and Ryan in 1985. Connie was a devoted mother and stopped working full-time while the kids were young.

In 2004 she left to pursue a career in the US, landing at UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica as a nursing supervisor for over a decade before retiring. Connie also served as a nursing professor at Santa Monica College, earning many accolades.

She was adored by her students and served as a mentor for many of them during their early careers. 

She was a devoted parent to Stephanie and Ryan and grandparent to Kaliana (Kali) who loved her dearly and misses her greatly. 

She has been mourned by friends, family and former work colleagues on both sides of the border. Cremation. Private Memorial in Los Angeles.

Her skin has been donated for transplant to burn victims.
