Exon AlEXON, Al George   - July 4, 1925 – June 13, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Albert (Al) George Exon announces his passing on June 13, 2021, in his 96th year.

Al will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved life partner of 39 years, Margaret Meechan, his sons Gord (Annetta) and Glenn, his grandsons Ryan (Stacey), Gavin (Emily), his great grandsons Callan and Jase Exon, his stepchildren Michael (Melissa), Alison (Dave) and his step-grandchildren Samantha, Jennifer, Mackenzie, and Connor.

Al is also survived by his daughter Ruth Legate and her family, his brother Keith (Marilyn), nieces, and nephews.

Al was predeceased by his wife of 27 years, Marion (nee Fordyce), his parents William and Frances (nee Johnston) Exon, his sister Gladys Chmilar, and her husband Sam.

Al was born at home in what was then known as the Village of Forest Hill, where he grew up and attended school. At the young age of 17, with a letter of permission from his mother, Al volunteered to serve his country in WWII. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a wireless air gunner (W.A.G). Al trained at Guelph University and learned morse code.

He was shipped overseas to Britain and was a member of the R.C.A.F. Bluenose Squadron 434, #6 Bomber Group, flying sorties over Germany on Lancaster bombers.

On his return to Canada at the end of WWII, Al resumed his career at what was then known as Northern Telecom, later known as Nortel. Al worked and studied his way up the ladder from a bench worker to a managerial position.

In 1947 he married his sweetheart Marion Fordyce, bought a home in Leaside, where he and Marion settled happily into the community and raised their children.

In 1993 Al and Margaret moved to Mount Albert, Ontario.

Al was well known in the village and made some good friends

A private cremation has taken place and due to Covid restrictions, a celebration of Al's life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations to the Southlake Regional Health Centre would be appreciated by the family.
