Jones MaireJONES, Maire - (29 August, 193717 June, 2021) -

In Memoriam - Maire is no longer with us here on Earth. She had suffered with a colostomy bag for several years after an intestinal cancer was removed but never properly sealed up. Recently ALS was added to her burdens, with weakness and pain everywhere, a little worse each day... She opted for medically assisted euthanasia and left us yesterday. Tim and I are devastated.

I was chosen by another engineering student to be Maire's blind date for the Christmas dance and I never again thought I would be without her. Our romance ended Maire's concentration on her studies but throughout our life together she acted as drafter and client relations manager on all our consultations.

I was especially lucky to have her as a manager on one of our last jobs which was in Myanmar and involved my travelling in districts controlled by various Generals with each district requiring a letter of permission from the Chief General in Yangon. Maire related waiting for an appointment, when allowed marching into the General's office finding the most comfortable chair and when the General suggested coming back for the letter in the afternoon she quietly declined saying that "no she would wait." At some point she arranged for a helicopter to come from Vietnam with airborne survey equipment and personnel from Canada. I needed to communicate with the helicopter and Canada but didn't dare walk around with a wireless phone, so we rented space in the police station in our survey area.

Maire was a great partner in every way and I can't quite see any significant role for myself without her.

Arrangements are entrusted with Giffen-Mack funeral home, Danforth chapel.
