Tyrrell BessieTYRRELL, Bessie Ruth Cavell - Passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021 at her Christie Gardens residence in Toronto surrounded by family. Cavell chose to have medical assistance in dying. She was 94 years old.

Survived by her sons Paul (Ann) and Christopher (Joanna) along with grandchildren Nicole (Peter), Laura (Jeff), Alexa (Jamie) and Benjamin (Alena) and great-grandchildren Isla and Claire.

Pre-deceased by her husband Len and sons, David and Ted.

A fiercely proud Newfoundlander, she left no stone unturned and lived a full life despite the obstacles and tragedies that challenged her.

She wrote and published her memoirs, titled ‘My Three Lives’, in which she tells of her experiences as a 16 year old orphaned immigrant from the then colony of Newfoundland to Canada where she began her life anew at Oakwood Collegiate, going on to enlist in the army, then graduating from the nursing program at Wellesley Hospital.

Her life experiences, that included raising 4 boys, ranged from being a collector and dealer in antique Canadiana furniture, an interior decorator of historic houses, a watercolour artist, and an avid wilderness camper and canoeist, as well as a world traveller.

She was loved, respected and admired by so many. She will be dearly missed.

Cremation has taken place and half her ashes will be placed with Len, David and Ted and the other half scattered in St. George’s Bay, Newfoundland.

Service will be at Morley Bedford Funeral Home on Saturday Aug 21 at 11am. Due to Covid restrictions, capacity is limited to 30 and by invitation only.

Memorial donations may be made to Covenant House, Interval House, or the Daily Bread Food Bank.
