SHAPKA, Evelyn Joyce (nee WINNICK) - It is with immense sadness that the family of Evelyn Shapka nee Winnick announce her passing on July 27, 2021 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto after a brief illness.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Olga and Michael Winnick, sister Margaret, and husband Robert Shapka.
She is survived by her loving brothers William (Bill) Winnick (Calgary, AB) and Morley Winnick (Spillimacheen, BC).
Evelyn loved the Rocky Mountains and over the years, she always looked forward to her quality time with family and friends at the family ski chalet in Panorama, BC. Evelyn, a noted educator and accomplished seamstress, received a Bachelor's degree in Science from the University of Alberta and a Master of Education from the University of Toronto.
A lifelong learner, Evelyn completed teaching qualifications in many areas and her on-going learning included the Principal's Qualification Program and the Supervisory Officer's Qualification Program.
Evelyn embarked on a lengthy career in Education as a teacher and a program coordinator at the district school board level until she joined the Ministry of Education in the Central Ontario Regional Office followed by her appointment to the Curriculum Division, Adult and Secondary School Department at the Ministry of Education.
Family and friends will be gathering for a memorial service honouring Evelyn's life in Chipman, Alberta, Evelyn's hometown.
